Once Upon A Culinary Time
Stories you can taste.
Step into a world where stories don’t just live on the page...they come to life in the kitchen.
In Once Upon A Culinary Time, students explore beloved books through a rich blend of reading, cooking, and hands-on creation. Each week, we dive into a new story and bring it to life by preparing recipes inspired by the characters, settings, and themes within it.
As students measure, mix, and create, they naturally build real-world math skills, follow multi-step directions, and develop confidence in the kitchen. Along the way, they engage in meaningful discussions, make connections to the story, and experience literature in a way that is immersive and memorable.
This class is about more than cooking, it’s about deepening comprehension, sparking creativity, and creating joyful, shared experiences. Stories become something students can see, touch, and savor, making learning both meaningful and delicious.
Story Studio
Where stories come to life through creation.
In Story Studio, students move beyond simply reading books, they step inside them. This project-based novel study invites students to dive into rich chapter books and respond through hands-on, creative work that brings each story to life.
As we read together, students explore characters, settings, and themes through meaningful projects such as building scenes, designing artifacts, creating visual representations, and engaging in imaginative expression. Each project is thoughtfully designed to deepen comprehension while encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and personal connection to the story.
Rather than worksheets or traditional book reports, students engage in authentic, process-based work that allows them to interpret and express what they’ve read in unique and meaningful ways. Over time, they develop stronger reading comprehension, storytelling skills, and confidence in sharing their ideas.
Story Studio transforms reading into an immersive experience, where stories are not just understood, but created, explored, and lived.

Mixed-Age Class Structure
At The Learning Grove, our classes are intentionally designed for mixed-age groups, typically Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 6th graders may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, especially if enrolling with a sibling in the same class.
This model encourages leadership, collaboration, and community. Older students mentor and model, while younger students learn by example, building empathy, confidence, and teamwork.

To support every child’s growth, our day includes age-based breakout sessions for developmentally appropriate instruction. This thoughtful structure ensures that all students are engaged, challenged, and inspired.
Is Your Child Ready To Participate In Our Program?

At The Learning Grove, we’re all about joyful learning, curiosity, and connection! To help your child get the most out of their experience, we ask that families take a moment to review the following readiness guidelines. We understand that some days are smoother than others (for little ones and big ones), but in general, students should be able to:

-
Be fully potty trained (including knowing when to go and managing toileting needs independently)
-
Wash hands and dress themselves with basic independence
-
Say goodbye to their grown-up and join in the fun
-
Show interest and willingness to participate in activities
-
Let us know if they need help or have a concern
-
Move from one activity to another with minimal support, even when things shift a little
-
Take part in group activities without needing constant one-on-one attention
-
Stay with the group and play safely without wandering off
-
Use the restroom, wash hands, and get dressed with independence
-
Work through challenges without using physical or hurtful language
We’re here to support each child’s growth with care and compassion and these guidelines help create a safe and positive space for everyone to learn and thrive together!
