Science Sparks

Hogwarts School of Wizardry

Where magic meets real-world science.

Step into a world of curiosity and discovery where potions bubble, creatures are studied,

and the mysteries of the universe unfold. Inspired by the iconic Hogwarts curriculum,

this immersive class invites students on a scientific journey through a whimsical

school of magic, where every lesson feels like an adventure.

Each week, students explore core scientific concepts through hands-on experiments and imaginative investigations, using magical subjects as a lens for real-world learning:

  • Potions (Chemistry) - reactions, mixtures, indicators, and solubility

  • Herbology (Botany) - plant biology, seed dissection, defenses

  • Care of Magical Creatures (Zoology) - animal adaptations, habitats, life cycles

  • Defense Against the Dark Arts (Physics) - forces and motion, heat, fire and energy transfer

  • Charms & Spells (Physics) - light, sound, magnetism, electricity, invisible forces

  • Astronomy (Space Science) - solar system, constellations, star mapping

  • Transfiguration (Matter & Engineering) - states of matter, transformations, polymers

Students mix, test, observe, and experiment as they move through each “course,” uncovering the science behind what feels like magic. Along the way, they ask questions, make discoveries, and build a deeper understanding of how the world works.

By weaving storytelling into science, this class transforms learning into an experience, one where curiosity leads, imagination expands, and science comes to life in meaningful and unforgettable ways.

Enchanted Ink: Wizard Writing Studio

Where stories are written, imagined, and brought to life.

Step into a world of magic, mystery, and storytelling where students become authors of their own enchanted worlds. In Enchanted Ink, writing is not confined to paper. It begins with imagination, unfolds through creation, and comes to life through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Each week, students are invited into the wizarding world through immersive prompts and story-rich experiences. They craft original spells, design magical creatures, develop unique characters, and build entire worlds filled with imagination and wonder. Through projects such as creating personal spell books, potion journals, creature field guides, and illustrated maps, students develop their ideas before bringing them into written form.

This is an immersive storytelling experience where imagination leads, creativity flows, and every child becomes the author of their own magical world.

Mixed-Age Class Structure

At The Learning Grove, our classes are intentionally designed for mixed-age groups, typically Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 6th graders may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, especially if enrolling with a sibling in the same class.

This model encourages leadership, collaboration, and community. Older students mentor and model, while younger students learn by example, building empathy, confidence, and teamwork.

To support every child’s growth, our day includes age-based breakout sessions for developmentally appropriate instruction. This thoughtful structure ensures that all students are engaged, challenged, and inspired.

Is Your Child Ready To Participate In Our Program?

At The Learning Grove, we’re all about joyful learning, curiosity, and connection! To help your child get the most out of their experience, we ask that families take a moment to review the following readiness guidelines. We understand that some days are smoother than others (for little ones and big ones), but in general, students should be able to:

  • Be fully potty trained (including knowing when to go and managing toileting needs independently)

  • Wash hands and dress themselves with basic independence

  • Say goodbye to their grown-up and join in the fun

  • Show interest and willingness to participate in activities

  • Let us know if they need help or have a concern

  • Move from one activity to another with minimal support, even when things shift a little

  • Take part in group activities without needing constant one-on-one attention

  • Stay with the group and play safely without wandering off

  • Use the restroom, wash hands, and get dressed with independence

  • Work through challenges without using physical or hurtful language

We’re here to support each child’s growth with care and compassion and these guidelines help create a safe and positive space for everyone to learn and thrive together!
